Coaches Dug Out Section
On my website I have created the Coaches Dug Out Section. In this section you will find various recommended products that are sport specific. The following are some of the category headings for the various coaching aids available for the particular sport listed. Each category will provide the necessary training aids that will allow you to be prepared for the challenges of coaching.
These items found in the Coaches Dug Out Section are available for you to become a more knowledgeable and productive Coach. If you are going to "walk the walk" you better be able to" talk the talk" and know the skills you need to be teaching for the particular sport you are coaching.
Some additional services we offer in the Coaches Dug Out Section locally is private lessons for baseball hitting, catching, and pitching instruction. The opportunity to work one on one or in small intimate groups allows for a more concentrated and productive learning experience to help you or your young ones become the best you can be at the game of baseball or softball.
In the Coaches Dug Out Section you will find various programs, help aids, DVD's, coaching manuals, and more to bring to the table different ideas that have worked in coaching in the baseball/softball arena. Other items are available as well for the other various sports such as football, basketball, soccer, hockey, golf, tennis, where coaching is involved.
The Coaches Dug Out Section will be updated from time to time with additional information that becomes available to bring new insight to your coaching experience.
One of the problems I have seen evolve over the past few years is the couch potato syndrome where the kids sit around and play video games and have little desire to go out and play. They get bored at a snap of a finger and want to be entertained versus finding a way for them to entertain themselves.
The day of playing pick up games till sundown has faded away, and as a coach trying to motivate the youth to excel at something they really don't care about or have a clue about what it takes to achieve success, and to appreciate hard work is a foreign concept. Many parents have allowed their children to run the asylum and the need for discipline to be taught or instilled has faded away.
The me generation has surfaced in many youth programs where you see 9, 10, 11, and 12 year old kids already being non-coachable. The biggest distraction is the parent who allows their kid to be unteachable, allowing their kid to think they know all they need to know at 10 for them to play ball. No wonder the youth programs drop in numbers when the rude awakening of little Johnny now trying out for Junior High or High School, or even some of the outside sport leagues where you don't always make the team is now a reality.
The team concept when not taught in the home becomes a challenge as a coach to teach to the children of today. This principle is a life principle that is applicable to employment, relationships, finishing a particular task, obtaining and completing a schooling degree, plus much, much, more.
To feel good once the task or challenge has been met through hard work and to experience success isn't a bad thing. If you don't feel the pain when you lose or fail, then how can you appreciate the thrill of victory or success in life's challenges once the challenge has been overcome and success achieved. In the Coaches Dug Out Section you can find the right products to lead you to the right path if you haven't applied these principles in your own life and now as a coach you are expected to know these things.
Talent is not equal. There is no way when sports become competitive that you can treat everybody the same when it comes to talent. If you spend countless hours with player A who has no talent only to spread yourself thin with your time for player B who is an exceptional athlete, then player B loses interest and becomes bored do to the fact he is not being challenged.
As a coach this fine line needs to be recognized and this is where you will find yourself in conflict with some of the parents and the need to develop thick skin comes into play. This is where the team concept needs to be taught and incorporating the parents help for additional practice being conducted at home for the lesser talented child or player is needed.
There comes a point in time depending what level the children are playing where if they don't know the basics, then they affect the whole team dramatically and can disrupt the chemistry of the team which in today's game is already fragile. At times as a coach you do feel like a glorified babysitter.
With the products available to you in our Coaches Dug Out Section, you can teach the drills to the kids and from there the parents can for themselves practice the same drills at home with their kids to help them improve and receive the additional preparation they need.
This is one of many reasons why the Coaches Dug Out Section was designed. Having various resources and programs available to help get the children of today to be the best they possibly can be, and to help them achieve success in their life is a challenge. If you think the old school is the only way to motivate, then you are in for a rude awakening.
One year to the next can be a dramatic pendulum shift in attitudes and if you as a Coach don't have the tools to adjust and make the necessary changes to work with the new batch of kids, then you will fail or at least will experience a painfully long season. As a coach it's important to have fun and to also remember that the kids need to experience the same. But finding the right balance is the key to success where respect, discipline, hard work, and having a proper learning enviroment is necessary.
